The Timpohon Trail
Timpohon trail usually is a starting point for the newbies because of its shorter distance to Laban Rata. Timpohon trail has proper hut for refreshment every kilometer. Here is how the journey begins from Timpohon to the Majestic peak of Mount Kinabalu.

Before you depart to this Timpohon gate, usually all the climbers must do the registration for the climbing permit, packed lunch, insurance and assigned a mountain guide at The Kinabalu National Park. The mountain guide will be your guider along your journey. Just shortly after the briefing and warm up, its about time to let the adrenalin rush. The journey from Timpohon gate to Laban Rata will take about 6KM away. It will be less scenic but the cold and freeze air will constantly vague your point of view.

The map above shows the route of the summit trail. Along the 6km journey to Laban Rata, you will be able to take a short rest for toilet and drinks in every pit stop in every kilometre because there is number of hut along the Timpohon trail. The first 1km hut is Kandis Shelter. And then you will stop again after 1km trekking at Urban Shelter.In 2km hut away you will find Low II Shelter. Short distance at the same place lies Kamborongan Telecom Station. You will continue your journey again until you stop for Mempening Shelter in 3km route. After take a short break you will trekking the trail again and stop at Villosa Shelter and Paka Shelter before end up the day journey at Laban Rata. Your exhaustion will be treated with inclusive buffet dinner. In Laban Rata there is about 5 options of resthouses for you to select. There are Gunting Lagadan Hut, Burlington Hut, Panar Laban, Waras Hut, Sayat-Sayat Hut and Laban Rata Resthouse.

The next day before the sun has risen up your journey to quest the mountain begins at 2.00am. You will start your 2.5km to the peak right after your buffet supper. The climbing challenge has start and you'll be amazed with the beautiful view once you reach the top.
